Stormy conditions force cancellation of ferry sailings in and out of Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­(UPDATED)

The wind and rain that has been lashing the region overnight is affecting Friday morning travel between the lower mainland and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Island, with BC Ferries making several sailing cancellations.

So far, high winds have forced the cancellation of four sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay as well as Tsawwassen and Duke Point.

The Tsawwassen-Duke Point cancellations included the 10:15 a.m. sailings from both Tsawwassen and Duke Point, and will also include the 12:45 p.m. sailings from both terminals.

On the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay route, six morning cancellations are being followed by 1 p.m. cancellations from both terminals.

Additionally, the Salish Eagle has cancelled the following sailings due to adverse weather conditions - high winds: 6:15 a.m. departing Comox (Little River) and 8:05 a.m. departing Powell River (Westview).

"The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us. We don’t take the decision to cancel sailings lightly, as we know customers rely on us to get to their destinations. We will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so," notes BC Ferries on their service alerts.
