Sugar, butter, and flour. These are three simple ingredients that can make a lot of magic together. At , it’s their literal bread and butter!

Since 1976, this local Bakery Café on Venables Street and Commercial Drive has been delivering Flour Power in the form of fresh baked honey sweetened breads and a variety of traditional pastries, cookies and pies right in the East Van community.

If you’re curious to know their track record, for over 45 years, Uprising Breads Bakery Café has served nearly three generations of customers, four major renovations, five different espresso machines, and over 2.5 million muffins!

Baking from scratch on site, Uprising Breads Bakery Café offers new twists on traditional baking for a fresh variety of local baked goods, such as: 

  • Seasonal pies and scones made with B.C. berries and other local produce,
  • Key Lime Pie and other decadent cakes,
  • New Zealand butter (“the good stuff”) blueberry cinnamon buns, and
  • Rotating house-made artisanal breads, served with soups and sandwiches.

With outside patio seating available all year ‘round, you can sit down for lunch and enjoy Uprising Breads Bakery Café’s homemade soups and salads, sandwiches on fresh breads, homemade wraps, hot focaccia slices, and of course, desserts! Sweet treats include cheesecake, carrot cake, lemon tarts, pie slices, cookie bites, and much more. Full-on barista coffee service is also available, with local roasts from Salt Spring Coffee Company.
