If you’ve gone past River Road in Richmond lately, you would have seen a bright blue turf field and probably found yourself wondering, “What on earth is that?”
The answer to that question is , the Richmond Olympic Oval’s new multi-use outdoor venue. The multi-sport turf field spans 4,200 square metres, and the space also features an outdoor training area and three hard surface basketball courts.
Since its introduction to the in April, The Fields has been used for the sports facility’s outdoor programming and summer camps. Outside of programming hours, the turf field is available for public use, which various local soccer teams and rec leagues have taken advantage of.
The Oval intends to open The Fields up to the community as a year-round venue for sports groups and event organizers to host sports training and competitions, live entertainment, and other local events and activities.
If you want to take a lap around the eye-catching blue turf, The Richmond Olympic Oval invites you to join them for an on Saturday, August 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate the official opening of The Fields.
The Fields will host an official ribbon cutting ceremony in the morning to kick off the open house festivities. The day itself will be packed with exhilarating sports activities, live performances by Circus West, a family fun zone, a BBQ, and other interactive activities on the turf field. Those looking for a physical challenge can to participate in the Van3x summer festival basketball tournament, taking place on August 26.
Attendance at the free open house event will also include free admission to the – Richmond Olympic Oval's museum of sport's past, present, and future – for the day.
