Get a hands-on career in healthcare with studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine-Acupuncture at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU). The diploma program is the only one of its kind to be offered at a public, post-secondary institution in BC.
at the university’s Richmond campus features courses in East Asian health and philosophy, Western medical diagnosis, acupuncture techniques and safety, case studies, and over 450 hours of clinical practice, giving individuals real-world experience. Students are equipped to be safe, competent, practitioners and are required to take select courses in Mandarin, which provide an advantage in clinical settings. The Richmond campus also features an acupuncture simulation lab and KPU has a network of clinics, making the program more encompassing for students. Individuals interested in the program are also able to apply for various scholarships and bursaries through the university.
Both Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Acupuncture are designated professions under the Health Professions Act. The program has been designed to meet or exceed the minimum requirements set by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC, and the competencies set by the Canadian Alliance of Regulatory Bodies of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists. When students complete the program, they are eligible to write national registration exams to become acupuncture practitioners in Canada.
