After hitting up all of the ski runs in the Lower Mainland and the Sea-to-Sky, are you feeling up to tackling a new mountain this ski season?

Then gather up your gear and pack up your car to head out on a road trip to one of B.C.’s largest ski resorts with great gains.

Here are five reasons why you should go exploring at this winter.

1. It's Canada's second largest ski area

4,270 acres of skiable terrain across 3 skiable mountain peaks, 138 trails with 19 gladed runs, 13 lifts, and over 34 km of groomed Nordic trails. The numbers speak for themselves at Sun Peaks — the second largest ski area in the whole country.

The resort’s expansive terrain allows skiers and snowboarders to spread out and have runs to themselves — which happens commonly at Sun Peaks. Plus, there are fewer crowds and shorter lift lines in comparison to other popular resorts.

Sun Peaks’ high elevation and gladed runs offer some of B.C.’s best pockets of snow. When it snows in Sun Peaks (the area receives around 20 feet of the white stuff annually), it falls as the light, dry, and fluffy kind that the Interior is known for.

With a huge variety of runs, from steep and deep double black diamonds to long and cruisy greens, there’s something for everyone!

2. You can try dog-sledding and other outdoor winter adventures

Whether on or off the slopes at Sun Peaks, outdoor adventurers can enjoy a variety of other , from trying out the unique sport of ski biking to snowshoeing under the moonlight by a roaring campfire.

For experiences that are different, exciting, authentically Canadian, and fun for all ages, feel the rush of a dog sled through the backcountry surrounded by snow-covered trees, or pulling a rainbow trout through the ice on a guided ice-fishing tour to round out your ski resort trip.

3. You can ski-in at the ski-through village

4. You can enjoy good food and good times

With over 20 cafés and restaurants to choose from, you’re bound to satisfy your cravings. From sushi and schnitzel, to homemade fudge and fresh baked goods—your taste buds will be pleasantly surprised at every turn.

Take a stroll (or a ski) through the village to find a cozy café for breakfast or lunch, an outdoor patio to enjoy some après-ski, or a dining room to savour a delicious dinner.

With that partner with nearby farmers and offer local wine, craft beer, and distilled spirits from the region, Sun Peaks offers a real farm-to-table experience.

Sun Peaks’ favourite Vertical Café has over 20 local food suppliers and serves craft beer from Kamloops own Iron Road Brewing and The Noble Pig. Serving 16 taps of B.C. craft beer, wines, and ciders, Cahilty Creek Kitchen & Taproom boasts a menu inspired by international flavours with seasonal ingredients. For a true Canadian dining experience with Canadian ingredients — such as bison, berries, bannock and local fish — head on over to Voyageur Bistro.
