When COVID-19 threatened to disrupt the flow of nutritious and healthy seafood, Organic Ocean created an online store. They provide contactless home delivery of their high quality seafood at the affordable pricing enabled by connecting the producer directly to the consumer.
Backed by incredible customer service and convenience, a loyal community of Organic Ocean supporters rapidly emerged. What was started as a pivot in response to a crisis has become a permanent and important part of Organic Ocean’s overall mission.
With giving back as part of their ethos, Organic Ocean supports the communities they serve even more by donating two nutritious meals for every order that’s received — which is now more important than ever.
Through the initiative, Organic Ocean supports non-profit and charitable organizations that are helping make nutritious foods accessible and available to individuals and families in need. Among the organizations they are partnering with in the Lower Mainland, Squamish, and the Greater Toronto Area are the Squamish Food Bank, A Loving Spoonful, Union Gospel Mission, Goodly Food Society, and Growing Chefs.
One of the recipients of Organic Ocean’s fresh seafood delivered — — received 400 pounds of frozen lingcod during the pandemic.
"The lingcod was so well received by our clients,” says Lisa Martella, Executive Director of A Loving Spoonful. “They were so thrilled to get an amazing gourmet dish and that wouldn’t have happened without the donation from Organic Ocean Seafood.”
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this week, the Vancouver-based organization serves vulnerable, high-risk individuals — many of whom are HIV positive, have coexisting illnesses, and/or have mobility challenges. A Loving Spoonful relies on community support to provide one hundred thousand meals each year for them to use in meals they provide to individuals and families who need a helping hand.
By returning back to their roots and taking this new path in their venture, Organic Ocean will continue to provide safe, tasty, and nutritious protein to our local community members.
