鶹ýӳInternational Jazz Festival recently announced its 2018 programming, which includes over 300 concerts taking place throughout venues, clubs and city parks.
Aside from the festival’s 150+ free concerts, this year’s jazz festival highlight is the Marquee Series, which will be headlined by the legendary Robert Plant on June 29th.
Plant and the Space Shifters had a unique live sound, incorporating a mix of American roots music, folk, reverberating psychedelia, and hypnotic Middle Eastern and African grooves. Together, these genres result in an absolutely incredible sonic experience, especially when the band dives into Plant’s deep catalogue of Zeppelin classics. Tickets are available .
This Year’s Marquee series will also feature performance from jazz, pop and electronic juggernauts. Including…
Kamasi Washington -
Saxophonist Kamasi Washington’s tour de force album, The Epic won numerous “best of” awards including the inaugural American Music Prize and the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Album of the Year. Washington followed that up with collaborations with influential artists such as Kendrick Lamar, John Legend, and Run the Jewels. He’s on track to be heralded as one of the most influential Jazz players of all time.
Bonobo -
Bonobo’s rise has been stealthy but unstoppable, and Si Green, the man behind it all, is now one of the biggest electronic artists of our time. His place in the pantheon was cemented further by two 2018 Grammy nominations. The live band incarnation of his set, which includes keys, horns, electronics, guitar, and drums, “entices with trademark slow-burning transitions from tranquillity to sonic upheaval,” (Irish Times).
Macy Gray -
Multi-platinum Grammy Award-winner Macy Gray first broke onto the scene in 1999 with her debut album On How Life Is which peaked at #4 on Billboard’s Top 200. Her hit song, “I Try” has achieved global acclaim, finding its way onto the charts in the United States, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. Her new album, “Ruby” will be released this fall.
All four of these performers make of TD 鶹ýӳInternational Jazz Festival Marquee Series, taking place June 24 - 29 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
