This year, Habitat for Humanity Kamloops purchased this sleek raffle prize, a 1968 Camaro SS Convertible, from Ian Gray Salmon Arm GM.
For the past three years, Rust Valley Restorers had partnered with Habitat for Humanity Kamloops to support building a foundation for attainable housing for residents in Kamloops, Shuswap area, and beyond.
In fall 2021, Mike Hall of Rust Bros sold his property and auctioned off many of his vehicles.
How the unique partnership all started was with a quick stop for coffee at a charming 50’s diner in the BC Interior. Habitat for Humanity Kamloops executive director Bill Miller and procurement coordinator Rex Landis enjoyed their coffee over conversation, discussing how the organization could reintroduce themselves into the community and have a greater local impact.
Looking out through the paned glass windows of this nostalgic diner was a unique collection of antique vehicles, which inspired Miller and Landis to come up with the idea of hosting a Classic Car Raffle to generate awareness and funds for their cause. By a stroke of luck, a diner employee managed to connect the Habitat for Humanity Kamloops team with Mike Hall of The Rust Brothers, who had an extensive collection of rare and classic cars amassed over the years on Mike’s property.
The partnership with Habitat for Humanity Kamloops was inaugurated, and in alignment with the Canadian documentary television series,Rust Valley Restores, the Rust Bros agreed to restore a classic car for Habitat for Humanity Kamloops and support Habitat’s first annual raffle.
Rust Valley Restorers airs on the History Channel and Netflix, and has brought attention and awareness to Habitat for Humanity Kamloops and their mission all around the world.
The Classic Car Raffle would not be possible without the support of Habitat for Humanity Kamloops’ sponsors, which includes Ian Gray of Salmon Arm GM, Prima Construction, LNGroup, Patteson, CFJC Kamloops, Lordco, Canadian Tire in Salmon Arm, Castanet, Cascades Casino, Kamloops, NeVille & Associates International Immigration, Eagle Homes, Cascade Casino in Salmon Arm, Kamloops Insurance, Canco Kamloops, Mr. Mikes Vernon, Kamloops Office Systems, Brushstrokes in Salmon Arm, Raceway Barber in Salmon Arm, and more.
