Finding Fall Flavours: Gelato Favourite Embraces the Season with Local Ingredients

The best thing about life on the West Coast? It never gets too cold. Sure a little (a lot) of rain and enough of a temperature drop to throw on a woven something or other, but ultimately Vancouverites are fortunate to be enjoying the unseasonal activities well into the Fall months. What really sets us a part from the rest of the country at this time of year is that we get to indulge in fall flavours outside of pie and coffee. That’s right, we’re still digging into frozen treats like ice cream and gelato!

Local sweet treat mainstay has just introduced a collection of new flavours available at Amato Gelato Café. They are sure to satisfy both your pre-Halloween cravings as well as your love of Fall-centric ingredients like chai and of course, pumpkin. As always, the family-run business makes their gelato from high-quality, local BC ingredients, resulting in some of the most and sorbetto in the city.

To celebrate the season, Amato Gelato Café is running a contest where four lucky winners will each receive a $50 gift card to sample all of their delicious new flavours. One winner will be announced each week between October 21st and November 18th. You can enter online .

Because we have a very special soft spot for fall flavours and are always looking for an excuse to consume gelato, we headed over to to ask them about the inspiration behind their new seasonal offerings.

Amato - Fall 2What made you choose these flavours and combinations?

Each one of our fall flavours this year were chosen for a specific reason. When we think of fall, we think spices and hot drinks. So why not create the cool version of the spicy hot chai tea that so many have grown to love? When it comes to Pumpkin Pie, it has been a seasonal favourite in our shop for years and it just wouldn't be right if we didn't bring it back. Finally, we can't forget our fall harvest fruits! Locally grown poached pears in spices with Italian mascarpone was a creative & less mainstream choice, but we have fallen in love with it.

What ingredients did you include in your seasonal flavours?

All flavours have an element of seasonal spices in them this year including cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger & cardamom. Combine these with pumpkin, pear & mascarpone and you get some pretty fantastic fall flavours.

Fall is a great time to enjoy all of the indoor spaces that Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­holds without feeling guilty about missing out on the sunny weather outside. It's also the perfect time to curl up on the couch with a container of gelato & your favourite Netflix show.
