Here are some family-friendly adventures to explore this weekend in Richmond

Round up your family and pack your weekend with a fun and fulfilling local trip to Richmond!

Ready to escape the constant surge of streaming TV?

This weekend, instead of packing your family’s bags, pack their weekend with a fun, fulfilling .

Capture the feeling of a true globe-trotting trip by starting your weekend with takeoff at the Larry Berg Flight Path Park. Perhaps Richmond’s most unusual green space, this park is tucked just beyond the fence of the South Runway at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»International Airport. With a giant, dome-shaped globe centrepiece and runway-like pathways, complete with flight lights and markings, it’s a great place to watch the planes fly by.

Next, land safely at the Terra Nova Adventure Play Environment, featuring a seasonal maze, treetop playhouse, double zipline, hammock swings and trampolines, and beautiful natural habitats – it’s an immersive park that the little ones will love.

Then expand your kid’s culinary horizons (a little, or a lot) at some of Richmond’s favourite dining spots – Pajo’s Fish & Chips, The Boathouse Restaurant or Sockeye City Grill.

Refuelled and ready for more, take an excursion to The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site – once one of the largest and busiest of the West Coast seafood canneries it's packed with kid-friendly exhibits and activities.

Next, take a voyage to the nearby Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site offering an interesting glimpse into British Columbia’s seafaring past. Take a step back in time and experience what life was like in Steveston’s fishing industry a century ago. This preserved fishing and shipbuilding village lined with vintage wooden buildings will have your kids enthralled while they learn about the unique West Coast history.

Now that you’ve exercised their minds, give their bodies a workout with miles of easy-access trails. Richmond and the surrounding shoreline trails offer a fun and accessible escape for all ages and skill levels.

Then grab a quick energy boost with a snack from the Icy Bar, or swing by McArthurGlen Designer Outlet and try Hugo’s Churros & Tacos or The Praguery before ending the weekend with some excitement filled laps around the go-kart track at TBC Racing – just be sure to reserve your spot.

Finally, take the short journey home and put the kids to bed on time. Then wake up the next morning and do it all again, there is so much culture and character in this exciting city to explore.

This weekend, take your family on what feels like a far-flung journey – in your own backyard.
