Safety?
illuminates the relentless pursuit of safety beneath the earth's surface and the profound impact it has had on the world. The immersive exhibition, which runs from May 18 to September 2, showcases the evolution and practices that have shaped the mining industry over the last century, from the perilous early days of mining to the cutting-edge innovations of today.
Once a crowning achievement of engineering when built in 1923, Mill No. 3 caught the attention of engineers from around the world. Today, guests have the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of the mine from this time, while learning about the brave and skilled workers who were dedicated to saving lives underground. Featuring a curated selection of photographs, videos, and historical objects from the museum’s private collection, Rock Solid, offers a true-to-life glimpse into the lives and livelihood of early miners, including the actual safety equipment they used in the early days of Britannia itself.
And if travelling back in time wasn’t enough you can also travel underground as part of Britannia’s most beloved attraction; . Surely to be Ms. Frizzle approved, the tour takes museum guests into the mountainside through a once-functioning haulage tunnel just as workers did back in the heyday of the mine. It’s the perfect accompaniment to and also an awesome way to spend an afternoon.
Once you do venture back to the earth’s surface you’ll be delighted to know that Britannia Mine Museum has a ton of other events, activities, and exhibits this season, including gold panning, film screenings, and !; an award-winning, multi-sensory, live-action attraction that utilizes multiple screens, 30+ speakers, and leading-edge special effects to bring all 20-stories of Britannia Mine back to life.
