Now that summer is coming to a close; you may think it’s time to begin donning your cozy clothes, winding down, and preparing for a fall into winter hibernation. But who says the fun has to stop just because the leaves are starting to change?

Even though the weather is cooling down, things are just heating up when it comes to can’t-miss experiences lying just beyond the horizon. So, don’t pack it in just yet!

If anything, why not pack up for a gorgeous getaway to the Cowichan Valley of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island? If you’ve been looking for a reason to fall back in love with the fall season, may have just what you’re looking for.

Nature

As B.C. residents, we are incredibly privileged with our close access to nature, and Cowichan is no different. Even the short ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Departure Bay in Nanaimo boasts stunning views of the Strait of Georgia.

As you watch the islands and coastlines blissfully pass by, be sure to keep your eyes peeled, you just may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a majestic orca.

Upon arrival to Cowichan, you’ll be spoilt for choice at the abundance of outdoor activities. Try your hand - or should we say legs - at one of the diverse hiking and biking trails, such as Mount Tzouhalem, Stoney Hill, Stocking Creek Waterfall, and Maple Mountain trails, to name a few.

Looking for something a bit more leisurely? No worries. The Historic Kinsol Trestle offers an ideal fusion of education and natural beauty. And we can’t mention stunning views without highlighting the Malahat Skywalk, which opened just last year, displaying magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding area.

After you’ve thoroughly exercised your body, take the opportunity to work out your mind with Cowichan’s various culture-fuelled activities.

A popular favourite among visitors is the Self Guided Totem Tour Walk in the small city of Duncan, home to the world’s largest collection of outdoor totems.

Not only does the tour allow you to admire the expert craftsmanship and exquisite colours of the totems themselves, but you’ll also receive fascinating and comprehensive insights into the history of the Cowichan region and its Indigenous Peoples and traditions.

From there, why not get in touch with your inner creative by taking in a show at the Chemainus Theatre? Featuring some of the finest performers and performances in Canada, the cast and crew of each production pour themselves into enchanting audiences with their skillful storytelling.
