Cinema Public House reopens on Granville with airy new design and a menu of Donnelly Group pub hits priced at $6, $8, $10 and $12.
Good food. Not too pricey. With a beer – local, plz. And fast. Is that too much to ask?
Cinema Public House doesn’t think so.
has reopened its doors on the corner of Granville and Smithe, with a new redesign and a tiered-pricing menu of modern pub favourites starting with nine items at just $6.
“The main objective with the menu refresh was to provide the customer with lots of bang for their buck,” says Alvin Pillay, Food Director at Donnelly Group. “The tiered pricing allows guests on really any budget to come in and have some food with a drink.”
Items like mozzarella sticks, blistered snap peas, perogies and something called dirty fries – french fries topped with sea salt and parmesan, and served with queso dip – open the offerings at $6 a pop, while $8 items like wings and salads, $10 sandwiches, and $12 mains and pizzas round out the menu.
“Some of the items are from existing Donnelly Group locations, kind of like a greatest hits,” says Pillay. Others, like those dirty, dirty fries, are brand new. “We've added a dish from Cinema's chef, Jor Gutierrez, the coconut curry noodles, which is his take on a Thai yellow curry. It’s a great new flavour profile for our menu and has been flying out of the kitchen.”
Regardless of which pricing tier you find your snack under, it shouldn’t take long to arrive. All of the items were developed to go from order to completion in just eight minutes, so your precious lunch break is safe. Speaking of lunch breaks… the pub’s craft beer program also brings the value, with a healthy selection of local standards and unique brews on tap.Â
Pillay’s new value-driven menu is backed by a design revamp that carries a sense of Granville Street’s vibrancy throughout the space. Resident artist Ricky Alvarez was on a mission to bring light and openness to the bar and dining areas, and create a pub that was fresh yet familiar by lowering walls, raising lights, building a new bar and throwing an abundance of natural light into the once dark space.Â
is open daily from lunch until late. Happy hour happens every day from 3-6 PM and from 9 PM-12 AM Sunday through Thursday.Â
