1 in 8 women are expected to develop breast cancer in their lifetime and, on average, 72 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Canada.
Thanks to generous donations and fundraising initiatives, such as the , which is held in communities across the country, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is able to invest in the most promising breast cancer research in Canada as well as offers the country’s leading breast cancer information and support programs so that no one faces breast cancer alone.
Support services include transportation services to help people facing cancer get to their essential medical appointments; lodges that provide accommodation; and a national, toll-free service that provides current, reliable information to people facing cancer, caregivers, families, friends, the general public and healthcare professionals.
If you’d like to support the CIBC Run for the Cure, then now is the time.
The Run  is a 5k or 1k walk or run that raises funds for CCS and is the largest single-day, volunteer-led event in Canada in support of the breast cancer cause. This year, CIBC Run for the Cure takes place on September 30 in 56 communities across Canada, including Vancouver.
While significant progress has been made in breast cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and care, and breast cancer mortality rates have decreased by at least 44% cent since their peak in the mid-1980s, there is still much more to be done.
Since the event began in 1992, the Run has raised almost $430 million for breast cancer research and support.
On September 30, you can promise to make cancer beatable by signing up or donating to participate and fundraise for the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure.
Breast cancer impacts the lives of thousands of Canadians every year, and funds raised through the Run will not only support Canada’s best breast cancer researchers, but important breast cancer support services, which can change the lives of people affected by breast cancer.
