We can all think of at least one senior who has made an indelible mark on our lives. Often unsung heroes, seniors occupy a unique and valuable space in our communities, serving as volunteers, role models, mentors and loved ones.
And it’s time they received the recognition they deserve.
The , presented by , create an occasion to do just that. Providing a forum to express admiration and appreciation, the awards recognize seniors for their outstanding accomplishments and the contributions they have made – and continue to make – in our communities, workplaces and homes.
This year, the event celebrates seniors from Squamish through to Hope, encouraging people to a notable senior in their lives.
Recognizing standout seniors
Serving as the only awards recognizing seniors in the Lower Mainland, you can now nominate an older adult who is making a difference. Whether it’s your neighbour who keeps the community garden looking pristine, the pianist who brings music to the lives of long-term care residents, or a friend who gives their time at a local non-profit, even seemingly small things are worth celebrating.
Seniors can be nominated in the following categories:
Arts
The Arts Award celebrates a senior who has demonstrated artistic achievement and/or made notable contributions in support of the arts. All artistic expressions, forms and disciplines are eligible, including literary, performing, visual, culinary, craft, environmental, new media and music.
Healthy living
Recognizing a senior who leads by example and promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, the Healthy Living Award recipient embodies healthy living and active programming for all ages. Their commitment could be reflected in multiple ways, such as a passion for sports, a gregarious green thumb or instilling their knowledge to inspire younger generations.
Leadership
The Leadership Award commemorates a senior who serves as a role model, inspiring others to pursue their goals and ambitions by providing supportive guidance and celebrating their accomplishments. This senior’s passion lies in fostering potential and raising people up by encouraging them to achieve their fullest potential.
Community Service
Finally, the Community Service Award celebrates an influential senior who has been instrumental in bettering their community and/or the lives of seniors through initiatives such as new or different programs, fundraisers or services, with the ultimate goal of serving others.
