Every once in a while I go back to this 2010 video featuring artist Ken Lum talking about the origins of his Monument for East Vancouver (AKA the East Van Cross), which shares some of the insights of how it came to be. Installed in 2010, I still find it incredibly awesome that this $800,000 icon was commissioned as a part of the Olympic and Paralympic Public Art Program from the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»2010 Winter Games. Easily recognizable legacies from the Games can be spotted all over our city but it's ones like this, not branded with the rings, that we forget were even part of it.
