A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing luggage from the domestic arrivals carousel at YVR.
During the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 26, officers from Richmond RCMP’s YVR detachment arrested a suspect in the International Terminal Building.
The 46-year old man, from Vancouver, is alleged to have stolen luggage from the domestic arrival carousels throughout the month of September. He is well-known to police.
“We are strongly committed to the safety and security of all persons and property at YVR,” said Richmond RCMP’s Cpl. Dennis Hwang.
“In the past several weeks, we responded to calls for service from travellers in the domestic arrivals area reporting lost luggage.
“Through our investigation, it was determined that the luggage was stolen from carousels before their respective owners could retrieve them - the most recent instance occurring on Sunday, Sept. 24. A possible suspect was identified in these thefts.
“A male fitting the description of the suspect was observed by YVR security staff on Sept. 26 and was quickly arrested.”
Police recommend that all travellers attend the baggage claims carousels immediately upon arrival and to report any suspicious activity to the RCMP.
