Photos: Award winning Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­house by famed Canadian architect selling for under $4M

It was recognized for its design in 1960

One of acclaimed architect Ron Thom's is up for sale.

Located at 6821 Laurel St, in the late 1950s for Mort and Irene Dodek and features a unique design showcasing Thom's influences from Frank Lloyd Wright and Japan.

Thom would go on to win multiple national architectural awards and design significant parts of two universities: the Massey College master plan at the University of Toronto and a master plan for the Catharine Parr Traill College at Trent University.

Originally from Penticton, Thom got his start in architecture at a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­firm in the 1950s. It was at this time that he designed Dodek House and others.

Dodek House, which was awarded the Architectural Institute of British Columbia Award of Honour in 1960, is now listed for sale on Vancouver's .

In 2005, Dodek House was added to the City of , including .

"It reflects the Modernist preference for uncluttered light-filled leisure-oriented spaces, a close interplay of interior and exterior spaces, and incorporation of private exterior spaces as living space, all promoting what was considered to be a healthy family environment," reads the  profile on the house.
