QMJHL roundup: Olympiques beat Cataractes for third straight win

GATINEAU, Que. — The Gatineau Olympiques were unlucky at the start of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, losing a couple games in overtime and not connecting on great scoring chances. It appears their fortunes have improved.

GATINEAU, Que. — The Gatineau Olympiques were unlucky at the start of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, losing a couple games in overtime and not connecting on great scoring chances.

It appears their fortunes have improved.

The Olympiques won their third consecutive game by defeating the visiting Shawinigan Cataractes 4-2 on Monday.

Zachary Dean, Cole Cormier, Genaro Fronduto and Tristan Luneau scored for the Olympiques, who outshot the Cataractes 32-24 and moved into sole possession of first place in the West Division with a 4-2-2-0 record.

William Veillette and Alexis Beaulac scored for the Cataractes, who slipped to 4-3-0-0.

FOREURS 3 HUSKIES 1

The Val-d'Or Foreurs scored two third-period goals 34 seconds apart to break a 1-1 tie and defeat the visiting Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

Charles-Antoine Beauregard, Alexandre Doucet and Frederic Potvin scored for the Foreurs (4-4-0-0), while Bill Zonnon had the lone goal for the Huskies (3-5-0-0).

OCEANIC 4 TIGRES 2

The Rimouski Oceanic outshot the visiting Victoriaville Tigres by almost double en route to a 4-2 victory.

The Oceanic (2-5-0-0), with goals from Alexandre Blais, Julien Beland, Cory MacGillivray and Mathis Aguilar, peppered 43 shots at the Tigres' net. Victoriaville had 26 shots on Rimouski's net.

Justin Larose and Thomas Belgarde scored for the Tigres (4-3-0-0).

VOLTIGEURS 5 DRAKKAR 4 (SO)

Niks Fenenko scored two goals in the third period for Drummondville to tie the game, and then his teammates took over in the shootout to knock off the visiting Baie-Comeau Drakkar 5-4.

Emile Chouinard and Vincent Collard also scored for the Voltigeurs (3-4-0-0), who outscored the Drakkar 3-1 in the shootout.

Sam Oliver had two goals for the Drakkar (4-2-01), with singles chipped in by Alexis Morin and Tristan Roy.

ISLANDERS 5 TITAN 2

Francesco Lapenna stopped 36 of 38 shots and his offence scored five goals as the Charlottetown Islanders defeated the visiting Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-2.

Lucas Romeo, Giovanni Morneau, Michael Horth, Owen Hollingsworth and Alexis Michaud scored for the Islanders (2-2-0-0), while Keiran Gallant added three assists.

Jacob Melanson and Joseph Henneberry netted goals for the Titan (3-3-1-0).
