I had to think long and hard before posting this week. It doesn't fill any of my usual criteria...the subject matter is not awesome, I don't know where the image was made, I don't know what the photographer means by the title, it doesn't make me feel all warm and happy on the inside.
Despite all of these things, this feels to me like an almost perfect image. I only say almost because perfect doesn't exist. I tend to fall in love with things which make ugly things beautiful. There is nothing more depressing than a tract of clear-cut land but without that clear cut this would somehow be a meaningless image. probably wouldn't have bothered making it if this was a cheery, green, lush environment.
The light is perfect, the muddy road leads our eyes to the horizon and makes us wonder how far this tragic massacre reaches, the diptych is lined up beautifully which makes the clouds form lines which mirror the road and the fallen trees. It's horrific and serene. It's awesome (and best )
Thank you, Ivan.
There was a lot of amazing photography in the pool this week folks, please keep posting and spreading the word about the .
