What would you do with $55 million?
Yeah, I know, there’s a joke in there about if you could actually afford a house in Vancouver, but it’s hard to laugh in the middle of a housing crisis.
There is one winning ticket for the $55 million jackpot in Friday night's Lotto Max jackpot, and it was sold somewhere in Ontario – which is highly disappointing because I’m parochial when it comes to good things happening to people. I like it when this stuff happens close to home. It feels more real.
But $55 million is a lot of cheese and I would definitely go nuts for a while with rager parties and crazy purchases of stuff I don’t need.
Sorry, I know that sounds immature for a guy who is 50, but I hate when people win big jackpots and say they’d keep working and do a few renos around the house (yawn). Just once I'd like to hear a lottery winner say they'd demolish their crappy house instead of doing some renos because can't stand the dump.
Why not go nuts for a while? I always loved that line at the end of Fast Times at Ridgemont High when Spicoli blows his reward money hiring Van Halen for his birthday party.
Sure, I’d donate a bunch of money, set up some scholarships and help out friends and family.
But I’d also lose it a little with the financial shackles cut off my body – at least for a little while.
Maybe I would try and hire Van Halen for my birthday – I’d at least see if bassist Michael Anthony was available.
There were also eight Maxmillion prizes of $1 million each up for grabs and two of them were claimed, with one winning ticket purchased in Ontario and the other in Atlantic Canada – again, disappointing.
The jackpot for the next Lotto Max draw on April 12 will be approximately $16 million.
Start planning something crazy.
