Halifax-area RCMP say a Cole Harbour man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with an alleged abduction and hit-and-run that killed a 30-year-old woman.
Police say a "Good Samaritan" tried to help a woman who was being held against her will by a man on Monday on Shrewsbury Road, in Cole Harbour, N.S.
Investigators say when the Good Samaritan intervened, she and the woman in distress were knocked to the ground by the suspect, Aaron Daniel Crawley, 33.
Police say Crawley used his car to strike the woman he had been detaining and fled the scene.
Two off-duty police officers, who were at a home nearby, rushed to the scene and provided first aid to both women.
The woman struck by the vehicle died of her injuries in hospital, while the woman who had intervened suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police issued a dangerous person emergency alert regarding Crawley and arrested him later on Monday on Highway 7 in Westphal, N.S.
The suspect is to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Wednesday to face charges of first-degree murder, assault with a weapon and four counts of failure to comply with a release order.
