A Richmond man was killed after being struck by a large vehicle Saturday morning, according to BC RCMP.
The driver did not stay at the scene. The victim has been identified as a man in his sixties from the Fraser Valley.
Mounties said they received several calls around 6:30 a.m. Saturday about a body lying in the southbound left lane of Highway 99, approximately 100 meters north of the Steveston Highway overpass.
鈥淩ichmond RCMP attended the scene and located a deceased man who had visible trauma to his body that was consistent with being struck by a vehicle,鈥� reads a statement from BC RCMP.
The area was cordoned off for several hours as police investigated, canvassing for video surveillance and interviewing the initial callers.
RCMP said they now believe the incident occurred between 1:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, and that the victim appears to have been struck by a large vehicle such as a commercial truck.
The driver may have heard or felt something unusual and kept driving without realizing a person had come into contact with their vehicle, explained the RCMP.
鈥淚f you are that driver, police would like to speak with you and urge you to come forward,鈥� reads the statement.
Mounties also seeking any passengers who might have been in the vehicle. They would also like to speak to any witnesses of the incident or anyone who saw a person walking on or near the highway where the incident occurred.
