A Loon Lake man charged with several weapons-related offences remains in custody and wasn’t given bail when he appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court Feb. 20.

Stephane Joseph Leclerc, 50, was arrested Jan. 18 after Loon Lake RCMP got a complaint from the Pierecland RCMP detachment about a suspicious man driving a grey SUV in a farmyard. Police located the vehicle on Hwy 26 north of Loon Lake and tried to stop it but the driver sped away.

Police found the SUV a short time later at a gas station in Makwa and arrested Leclerc, who was driving.

But while the RCMP officer was taking a handcuffed Leclerc to the police truck, Jolene Nicole Sinclair, 35, who was a passenger in Leclerc’s vehicle, allegedly hit the officer from behind, knocking him down and then grabbed a machete, went into the driver’s seat and tried to run the officer over. The officer was able to move himself to safety. Police say Sinclair tried turning the SUV around and accelerated again towards the officer but she lost control of the vehicle and plowed into the side of a gas station.

When police searched the SUV they found three semi-automatic handguns with five loaded magazines, bags of ammunition, a revolver, a machete, a black ski mask, leather gloves, knives and bolt cutters.

Sinclair was granted bail Feb. 12 in Meadow Lake provincial court.

During Leclerc’s appearance on Feb. 20, the court heard that there may be a possible resolution on the charges against him. The matters were adjourned until March 26 in Meadow Lake provincial court.
