This year鈥檚 Richmond Street Banner Contest winners have been announced.
At the city council meeting earlier this week, 10 local artists unveiled their winning banner designs. The banners will soon be installed on street light poles around Richmond, where they will remain until early 2021.
鈥淚t is wonderful to see such a robust and active artistic community in Richmond, and we鈥檙e fortunate to have these winning designs decorate our city streets,鈥 says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. 鈥淐ommunity engagement and the arts are important to council and this contest is one of the many ways residents can participate in beautifying our city.鈥
More than 350 designs were submitted for this year鈥檚 Street Banner Contest. There were 10 themes represented:
鈥 Island City
鈥 Connection
鈥 Active Living
鈥 The Arts
鈥 City Centre
鈥 Heritage
鈥 Sustainability
鈥 Community
鈥 Nature
鈥 Culture
The entries were displayed at the Minoru Centre for Active Living in November and December. Members of the public then voted for their favourites on the city鈥檚 Facebook page. After a week of voting, the 10 designs that garnered the most votes鈥攐ne from each theme鈥攚ere chosen as winners.
The 2019 banners will be available for purchase at the Community Services Division reception. This is located at the city鈥檚 operations yard, 5599 Lynas Lane. Banners can be purchased weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting April 20.
