TERRACE, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA — Mounties in Terrace, B.C., say they have identified the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash over the weekend as a driver for a local taxi company who has since left the country.

Police say they were called to an intersection in the central B.C. city early Sunday where they found a man on the road with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.

The man was declared dead at the scene and police believe he was struck between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m.

Police say that on Tuesday they obtained evidence the vehicle was owned by a local taxi company.

The vehicle has been seized by police who say the company is co-operating in the investigation.

Police say the driver of the suspect vehicle has been identified but has left Canada.

Mounties say they are working to bring the case to the B.C. Prosecution Service for charge assessment.
