A man has been arrested after allegedly groping a woman in Vancouver.
The suspect was caught after the woman chased him and yelled for help.
The incident happened around 11:45 p.m. Sunday night, Sept. 22, in a residential area near the intersection of Main Street and East 62 Avenue, according to a press release from the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department (VPD).
The man allegedly approached the 32-year-old woman from behind and allegedly groped her; she was walking alone.
He then tried to run away, but the woman chased after him and called out for help.
“Her screams caught the attention of two men in a nearby house, who came outside just as the suspect was fleeing into a yard,” said Sgt. Steve Addison in the release. “The Good Samaritans took custody of the suspect while the woman called 911, and our officers arrived moments later to take custody of the man.”
Police also seize the man's car.
The VPD is praising the woman for her courage.
“This woman showed courage, poise, and presence of mind after being attacked by a complete stranger,” added Addison. “We commend her, and the people who assisted her, for tracking down the suspect and helping our officers make this quick arrest.”
The suspect, a 34-year-old man believed to be from the area, has not been charged as of the time of publication, though he does have a court date on Jan. 25, 2025.
