The details are sparse, but according to the Sea to Sky Conservation Officer Service (COS), a shot, injured wolf may still be around the forest near the landfill.
told The Squamish Chief that the investigation is ongoing, but the animal was reportedly shot on July 7 in the area of the Squamish Landfill.
It is believed the wolf is still alive, as there have been sightings since.
The incident was not immediately reported to the COS.
said that the animal might have only been nicked by a bullet.
"It is hard to know," he said.
Shooting a firearm in that area is illegal, and there's no legal wolf hunting any time of year in the region.
Under the a person who kills or wounds wildlife other than prescribed wildlife, either by accident or for the protection of life or property, must also immediately report it to a conservation officer.
