The sun may be shining in Metro 鶹ýӳthis afternoon, but earlier today the region saw powerful winds that resulted in multiple power outages across the region.
As of Nov. 17 at 12: 56 p.m., BC Hydro listed 70 power outages in the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast. Many of the outages report that a tree has fallen down on the wires, while others simply say "windstorm." In total, 34,891 customers were affected by the outages at that time.
Earlier this morning, Environment Canada issued a wind warning for Metro Vancouver calling for gusts up to 90 km/hr in the region. The warning notes that the high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. The windstorm has ended, but the forecast calls for a risk of thunderstorms this evening and periods of rain later tonight.
From waves crashing against the White Rock Pier to numerous fallen trees to tossed debris, have a look at some of the moments that locals caught in photographs and on video of today's storm.
Out for my afternoon walk in East Richmond now that the winds have calmed down. A broken tree limb is just touching the path.

High water and lots of debris this morning at peak tide but otherwise relatively calm 🌊 This is a good example of how important the timing is for the coincides of tides, wind, and surge for coastal flood and uncertainty associated with forecasting!
