The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Whitecaps FC are raising funds for the Greater Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Food Bank during the COVID-19 pandemic through an online art sale.
The soccer club notes that all proceeds from the sale will benefit the GVFB, who are experiencing exceptional demands due to COVID-19 in Vancouver.
Customers can purchase the limited-edition full colour print by local artist, Carson Ting, which is called "It Takes a Village" and honours the heroes are keeping our communites safe and healthy. Alternatively, they may purchase the print in blue.
"From doctors, truck drivers and grocery store clerks, to nurses, firefighters, and supply chain workers, the courage of Vancouver’s frontline workers is seeing us through the COVID-19 crisis," remarks the online sale description.Launched in 1983, the GVFB provides healthy food to community members in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. 25% of its clients are children, and 22% are seniors. During the pandemic, the GVFB states that it wants to provide information and reassurance about the support its communities will receive from five locations in our four cities.
On May 1, the Whitecaps shared a video of the project on social media, stating that, "Normally, at this time, fans would come into the stadium, fans would come into the stadium, ready to cheer. Even though we're sidelined we're proud the cheering hasn't stopped."
