This year there are several options for disposing of the once beautifully ornamented tree turned fire hazard sitting in your living room.
Lion's Club tree chipping
Back this year after previously cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, between 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Donations of cash and non-perishable food items are welcome and will be distributed to local charities.

UBC Botanical Garden
Proceeds from the Christmas tree will go directly to Thunderbird Elementary, a school located in East Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»with a high percentage of vulnerable students and families. The fundraiser will go towards fixing broken garden boxes at the school. The fundraiser runs from Dec. 26, 2021 - Jan. 9, 2022, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Just drop off your tree at the UBC Botanical Garden, follow the signs and place your tree behind the orange posts. They will be chipped into mulch and used on garden trails. A suggested minimum donation is $5.
City of Vancouver
Homes with weekly City Green Bin service are eligible for during the weekend of January 15 and 16, 2022.
How to set your tree out for pick-up:
- Lay the tree on its side
- Place it in the same location you set out your bins and be sure the tree is easily visible from the lane or street
- Leave the tree loose (no bags, string, or rope)
You can also cut your tree into small pieces and place them in your home's green bin for regular pickup. Just make sure the pieces are less than 50 cm in length and less than 10 cm in diameter.
If you miss the pick-up date you can always give your tree one last car ride to the transfer station or landfill until Jan. 31. Keep in mind though the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Landfill and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»South Transfer Station are closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. ​​​
