Environment Canada is forecasting a significant wind event for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and surrounding areas Thursday, Jan. 5.
A strong low-pressure system is moving towards the Lower Mainland from the Pacific Ocean. They predict winds will hit up to 80 km/h in Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»tomorrow evening through to midnight.
"Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break," states the federal agency in a special weather statement.
Rain and showers are also expected during the storm.
For Metro Vancouver, Environment Canada has only issued a weather statement at this point, but for other regions including southern Victoria, the Gulf Islands, and the Sunshine Coast they've issued a warning, with winds potentially hitting 90 km/h.
The winds are expected to ease after midnight and before morning on Jan. 6.
