Update September 8, 2022: 43-year-old William Tallio who was wanted Canada-wide was arrested yesterday by Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police on 11 counts of mischief and 11 counts of possession of a weapon related to the BB rounds fired at buses travelling along East Hastings Street last winter.
A 43-year-old man is wanted Canada-wide in connection with incidents that left 26 buses damaged from being shot with a BB gun.
The incidents happened in January says the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department, when a man in the Downtown Eastside shot the windows of buses as they passed him on East Hastings Street. While the buses were damaged between January 17 and 31, the VPD says it was a difficult case to work on as the damage wasn't immediately reported.
"Investigators worked backwards to pinpoint the exact location where the crimes occurred, to identify the suspect, and to gather evidence linking the suspect to the crimes," says Sgt. Steve Addison in a media release.
Transit police worked with the VPD to understand how the buses were being damaged.
"Though each bus had passengers on board, no victims ever came forward and there were no reported injuries," states the VPD in the release. "In most cases, the damage wasn’t noticed by the bus drivers until after they had finished their shifts."
William Tallio was charged in the case on Aug. 29. He faces 11 counts of mischief and 11 counts of possession of a weapon related to offences between January 19 and 29. He's now wanted Canada-wide, state the VPD.
