A Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»driver ended up in a bike lane after turning the wrong way while coming out of an underground parkade.

The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department's (VPD) Traffic Unit shared an image of the vehicle that was stopped in the bike lane outside of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»courthouse on Twitter Wednesday, Feb. 15.

A VPD officer was conducting enforcement at Hornby and Smithe streets when the incident occurred and they helped the woman get out of the bike lane safely, VPD Const. Tania Visintin told V.I.A. in an email.

"This appeared to be a person that was coming out of the underground parkade at the courthouse, mis-turned, and ended up in the bike lane," she said.

Visintin added that no enforcement action was taken and "the driver was given a warning and education as her driving in the bike lane was an accident."

People end up in bike lanes "from time to time" and penalties are sometimes issued based on what they are doing, whether "they are parked or driving," she noted.

Multiple people have complained about this area and the VPD says it is "actively working with the city to improve it."

In response to the Traffic Unit's post on Twitter showing the vehicle in the bike lane, one person commented that it "happens all the time" while another blamed ICBC's road testing standards.
