Richmond RCMP is investigating a driver after an incident caught on video.
A white SUV can be seen stuck in the middle of Granville Avenue in Richmond at the beginning of the video; the driver gets out and surveys the situation for a moment before getting back behind the wheel of the vehicle.
A moment later the vehicle swerves onto Granville, going the wrong way down the busy street. The SUV appears to have damage to a tire on the driver's side of the vehicle, or its underside, as sparks fly when it picks up speed.
A short distance down the road it comes to a stop as a car approaches head-on, before moving over to the other lane (still going the wrong direction). Horns can be heard on the video, and what sounds like scraping and screeching tires as the SUV lurches a couple of times until it's out of sight.
The person who posted the video, , notes in the comments he started shooting the video after hearing a loud noise at 10:24 p.m. on June 6. He notes a puddle of liquid was left behind on the road where the SUV had become stuck.
Mounties caught up with the vehicle a short time later.
"Our officers quickly intercepted the vehicle near No. 3 Road and Francis Rd before anyone was harmed. The driver was investigated for impaired driving," says Cpl. Dennis Hwang in an email.
He notes the RCMP wants people to send in their videos of incidents like this they see.
"Many people do not notify police and simply upload things to social media to gain likes, or karma in the case of Reddit," he writes. "We ask that responsible community members assist us whenever possible. Those that did assist us in this matter likely saved lives and should be commended."
