A demonstration raising awareness about human rights in Venezuela will block traffic in Downtown Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Protesters around the world are calling on the international community to demand the International Criminal Court prosecute Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro for "crimes against humanity and recognize Edmundo González Urrutia as the President-Elect," according to a press release.
Organizers hope to raise awareness about the "dire situation" in the country, including violent crimes.
According to the tallies of the National Electoral Council, Urrutia won the presidential election on July 28 with 7,173,152 votes (67%), while Maduro received 3,254,24 votes (30%).
Demonstrators will gather at the Jack Poole Plaza at 2 p.m. and march to the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Art Gallery. The event is slated to run until 4 p.m.
Protests will also occur in 16 other Canadian cities and worldwide on Saturday.
