The third atmospheric river to hit B.C. in just one week has prompted yet another rainfall warning for the city of Vancouver.
Heavy rain may ease somewhat tonight but will persist through Wednesday as a cold front moves across the region according to Environment Canada’s Nov. 30 warning.
In total, 60 mm are expected over central Vancouver, 60-80 mm over southern sections of Sunshine Coast, and up to 120 mm near the North Shore mountains and Squamish. That prediction is up from previous forecasts which suggested between 50 and 100 mm would fall.
“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” the warning states. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”
The worst of the storm is to encompass most of Nov. 30 and into Dec. 1. Other risks include snowmelt that may contribute to increased runoff.
'Weather whiplash'
The Weather Network recently released a Canada-wide winter forecast that calls for a "tumultuous temperature pattern" oscillating between high impact and milder weather.
"Across western Canada, we expect that frigid temperatures will out-duel the periods of milder weather, especially during January and February," explains a news release.
