The glass court has been to the Pyramids of Giza and Grand Central Terminal. Now it's coming to Vancouver.
The Power Court, named after Canadian legend and only North American squash player to rank best in the world Jonathon Power (he was born in Comox, B.C.!), is an all-glass squash court that lets spectators watch the game from all angles.
The court will be set up at Jack Poole Plaza from June 1-7 for the 2022 Oxford Properties Canadian Squash Championships and will be Canada's first-ever outdoor squash tournament.
Squash enthusiasts can purchase a general admission ticket to the championships which includes a seat in the bleachers (except for the first six rows which are for VIPs) and access to the beer garden. However, there won't be bleachers on the side facing the water, so the public can catch a glimpse of the action there from outside the fence. The games will go on for the first five days.
On the last two days, the court will be open to anyone interested in trying out squash (equipment provided) and will also have draws for free three-month memberships at the YWCA Fitness & Racquet Club.
An inflatable mini squash court for kids and beginners (racquets and balls provided) will be set up by the Olympic cauldron. It's not all glass, but still fun (and free to access)!
