November 2023 features a "full beaver moon." Do you know why it's named for Canada's national animal?

November's full lunar offering is named after Canada's national animal.

The full beaver moon will shine in its on Nov. 27 at 1:16 a.m., according to timeanddate.com.

Around this time in November, beavers across North America begin to find shelter in lodges "having laid up sufficient stores of food for the long winter ahead,” reports . During the time of the fur trade, it was also the ideal time to trap them for "their thick, winter-ready pelts."

While it is commonly known as the beaver moon, it was also called the full frost moon by other North American tribes.

Last year, beaver moon gazers were also treated to a total lunar eclipse.

Depending on the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»weather forecast, locals may be able to see the moon more easily in some neighbourhoods than others. Check out your favourite sky-watching spot on V.I.A.'s Weathhood for detailed, up-to-date information for over 50 spots across the Lower Mainland.
