BC Hydro has restored power to most of its customers following a major windstorm Thursday -- but the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»weather forecast includes more stormy weather this weekend.
Environment Canada says an atmospheric river will bring heavy rain and strong winds to the Lower Mainland from Saturday (Oct. 29) through Sunday night. Mild temperatures are also expected over the weekend with the weather event.
According to a special weather statement issued Friday morning, rainfall warnings are "likely" as significant amounts of rainfall are expected to fall during this period.
For areas with higher elevation, including many of those on B.C.'s highway passes, the "mild temperatures will elevate snow levels" and the precipitation will fall as rain.
On Saturday night, strong southeast winds are expected to develop through the Strait of Georgia and continue through Sunday.
Power has been restored to 99,000 of 100,000 British Columbians across the province who lost power in the windstorm, according to a BC Hydro statement issued early Friday morning.
Crews will continue to work throughout the day and BC Hydro expects to have all remaining customers restored today – with the possible exception of small pockets of customers in more remote areas in the North.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»weather forecast includes stormy weather, milder temperatures
Thanks to the milder weather event over the weekend, Vancouverites may not see colder weather develop until after Halloween. Currently, the weekly forecast calls for a double-digit daytime high of 12 C on the big day followed by an overnight low of 7 C.
But the temperatures may drop significantly Tuesday, as the forecast currently shows a frigid overnight low of 2 C.
While Wednesday may offer a brief respite from the rain during the day, periods of rain are expected again overnight with a chilly 3 C low. The wet weather is expected to continue Thursday.
