A Vancouver-based youth academy is breaking barriers and helping make it easier for Black students to become involved in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Ethọ́s Lab launched last February and, despite the pandemic, has managed to cultivate a growing community of young innovators. The group became the first Black-led organization in Canada to create a social VR space.
Founder Anthonia Ogundele says the lab aims to provide participants with the tools and skills necessary to become active creators, rather than passive consumers, of media.
The nonprofit program is also aiming to raise $100,000 during Black History Month to build a bigger team and develop various workshops.
