A 15-year-old male has been arrested following his alleged random assaults of three different people on the seawall near the Olympic Village this weekend.
Police were called by a 57-year-old man after he was allegedly attacked around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. The man said he was chased, punched and kicked while out.
Officers arrived at the scene and while they were searching for the suspect they found two other victims. Both were women who said they had been punched for no reason.
"Based on evidence collected at the crime scenes, police identified and arrested the teen, who was still in the area. He was taken to jail, charged with three counts of assault, and has since been released," say the VPD in a press release.
They note it was one of several violent incidents this weekend, including the city's third homicide of 2022 and a bomb scare along the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»marathon route.
“There is no indications that there is any connection, they are very much unrelated but to have them happen in such a short period of time and in a relatively small area is understandably concerning to anyone who lives there," Addison told Glacier Media during a press conference May 2.
“Each case we were able to respond quickly, gather evidence, apprehend offenders and engage in important investigative work because people took the initiative to phone us, that’s the biggest takeaway there … you see something call 9-1-1 so that we can respond.”
“The bomb scare, the homicide, and the series of stranger attacks on the Seawall; these are all in-progress incidents with significant public safety issues and people did the right thing and called police, called 9-1-1 so we can send officers to the area, that’s what we want to see.”
