‘Human chain’ protest in solidarity with Iran happening in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­this weekend

A "human chain" protest is taking place in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­on the global day of protest on Oct. 1, 2022, in solidarity with the people of Iran.

Protests have erupted around the world following Mahsa Amini's death. 

A global day of protest is planned for Oct. 1 and a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­"human chain" event is expected to take place that day.

Amini died in police custody in Iran after being arrested, allegedly because her head scarf was too loose.

Vancouver's Persian community had on Sept. 19 and Sept. 25 at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Art Gallery, and on Sept. 21 in front of the U.S. Embassy downtown. 

Protesters were seen chopping off their hair and one cut up their Iranian identity card. 

The upcoming protest will be unlike a rally. "Join us in the human chain in solidarity with the people of Iran," reads the .

The "human chain" protest will stretch down Georgia Street from 2 to 4 p.m. starting at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Art Gallery and ending at Stanley Park. Those planning to join are encouraged to wear white. 

"Hand in hand, let us stand with the people of Iran in their fight for [women's rights]," says the protest description.
