Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police say a 'young' driver was speeding over double th speed limit in Porche.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police nabbed a "young" driver who was going over double the speed limit in a luxury car.

The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department's (VPD) Traffic Unit shared a post on its Twitter account that shows a picture of a radar gun that clocked a vehicle going 187 km/h in an 80 km/h zone around 1 a.m. on Southwest Marine on Wednesday, June 21.

Police write that the driver was "young" and had four other youths in the vehicle with them. The driver had a "learner licence" and was driving a Porsche.

The VPD add in a pair of hashtags that there is "no need for speed" and that people should "drive safe" on the road.

The patrol officers impounded the Porsche, which they can  if the driver was travelling upwards of 40 km per hour above the limit, according to ICBC.

Repeat offenders may have their vehicles impounded for 30 or 60 days. Drivers must also pay the vehicle towing and storage fees to get their vehicles back.

A local woman  in response: "This is terrifying. Thank god you were there to stop them. You saved lives, including theirs. (Something they may not appreciate until they are much older.)"

VPD Const. Holly Christie retweeted the incident, noting that she was "glad our members were around when this vehicle was passing through."

The VPD's main Twitter account also retweeted the post, adding that "so many things can go wrong at this speed! We are thankful our VPD officers were able to intervene before something irreversible happened."
