Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a visually-impaired man was assaulted.
The 69-year-old man was punched in the stomach by a stranger while walking through a crosswalk at Thurlow and Alberni around 11 a.m. on March 31. He was wearing a bright yellow high-visibility jacket and was walking with a cane at the time of the attack. The suspect fled the area before police arrived and the man did not suffer any physical injuries.
“We don’t know if there was a motive for this attack, but it appears the victim had no prior interaction with the suspect before the assault,” says Constable Tania Visintin. “We also know this can be very distressing for the community when incidents like this continue to happen."
VPD investigators have identified a suspect and are still gathering evidence. They ask anyone with information to call 604-717-4021.
