The City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»announces that it is installing an additional four pop-up plazas to help residents safely return to community life as businesses continue to reopen.
In a release, the City notes that pop-up plazas are, "the latest measure it is taking to provide people with more space to resume everyday activities."
The plazas have temporary seating to give people the opportunity to eat, visit, rest, and enjoy the weather while maintaining a safe distance from others. They feature colourful tables and chairs, benches, and in some locations a cordoned-off area for restaurant patios.
They are located at:
- 18th Avenue and Cambie Street
- 17th Avenue and Cambie Street
- 14th Avenue and Granville Street
- 13th Avenue and Granville Street
The first pop-up plaza was installed at 27th Avenue and Fraser Street on June 12 and local businesses are helping to manage the plaza. The additional four plazas are in partnership with local Business Improvement Associations, which are overseeing the stewardship of the space to ensure they are maintained and integrated into the neighbourhood.
These plazas are also in addition to the five pop-up parklets that were installed in the Downtown Eastside as part of a broader plan to provide safe outdoor spaces for residents in that neighbourhood.
