City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»staff were recently mandated to get their coronavirus vaccines. While not affected by the policy Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»councillors have received both doses.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»councillors report they are fully vaccinated following the implementation of a new policy mandating city staff to receive their coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines.

While there could be exceptions for medical reasons or on grounds protected under the province's Human Rights Code, city workers are to be fully vaccinated as of Dec. 6, 2021. This policy however didn’t affect councillors as elected officials are not subject to the same employment terms as City employees.

“Notwithstanding, all members of Council want to assure members of the public that they are voluntarily following the intent of the policy, as well as advice from public health,” a release from the City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»states.

While the city workers policy change was announced Oct. 18, the details around the mandatory vaccination rules haven't been finalized.

Last month, the city announced those visiting city hall would not need to show proof of vaccination to attend in-person council meetings.
