Vancouver's city hall will be pink tonight, Sept. 2, in honour of B.C.'s health care workers.

To show support of the city's health care workers, Vancouver's city hall will be lit in pink tonight, Sept. 2.

The pink glow will be added to city hall around 7 p.m. Coun. Sarah Kirby-Yung writes in a tweet.

"I’m pleased to share that City Hall will also light up in pink at 7pm tonight to show @CityofÂ鶹´«Ã½Ó³»’s support, 💗 and gratitude for our healthcare workers," reads part of the tweet.

At the same time the B.C. Legislature in Victoria will also be lit in pink for the same cause.

It's "a gesture of gratitude for all that they have done and continue to do during the pandemic, in the face of many challenges," states the legislature's Twitter account.

The support follows Wednesday's massive protests across B.C., where participants rallied against a variety of things, including vaccine passports, vaccines, the government and health care authorities.

Many of the protests, including the one in Vancouver, saw protesters start in front of hospitals in the early afternoon. Protesters, and police, were still in front of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»General Hospital (VGH) at 6 p.m. In Victoria things escalated to the point that some health care workers reported being verbally abused and one was physically assaulted.

Following the events, many took social media to share their thoughts. That included several members of city council, with Mayor Kennedy Stewart, in one tweet, telling protesters to "Go the hell home" in response to health care workers being blocked at VGH.

Premier John Horgan also released a statement.

"While everyone has the right to peaceful protest, the targeting and harassment of health-care workers at health-care facilities today is completely unacceptable. We stand by our health-care workers and support them fully," said Horgan.
