Crack open a cold one in public this (and next) year!
鶹ýӳcity council was unanimous in wanting to continue to provide public drinking spaces after making the Drinking in Public Plazas Program a permanent seasonal program in 2022.
Council also approved drinking at 22 public parks last year.
On April 11, city council voted to expand the Drinking in Public Plazas Program to allow locals to consume alcohol at six select plazas over the next year.
Starting May 15, Vancouverites can bring and drink booze at participating plazas from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until October 16 and, during the winter months, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily between October 17, 2023, and May 14, 2024.

Locals can drink at the following plazas starting May 15, 2023, until May 14, 2024.
- Cambie St and 17th Ave
- Cambie St and 18th Ave
- Granville St and 13th Ave
- Granville St and 14th Ave
- Lot 19, 855 West Hastings St
- Main St and 21st Ave
Drinking at the plaza located at Maple Street and 4th Avenue is only permitted during the spring and summer months, starting May 15 until October 31.
“Community connection and spaces for public life are so important for our well-being and quality of life. Having plazas that allow alcohol consumption year-round will help make our city more vibrant while supporting local businesses,” says Mayor Ken Sim in a statement.
