The $4.8 million spinning chandelier that’s been installed under the Granville Street bridge has gained over the past couple of weeks.
“Spinning Chandelier” is the work of B.C. artist Rodney Graham. It was commissioned and donated to the city thanks to nearby condo development’s mandatory public art contribution to the City.
Twice a day (at noon and 9 p.m.) the thing spins for three minutes, providing a spectacle for those under the bridge. It has also caused a spectacle on social media where it has been both maligned as well as defended.
Love it or hate it, it’s now a piece of the city.
Local YouTuber Steven Huynh (aka ) took it upon himself to check out the chandelier at noon on a rainy day this past week, interviewing a few folks about what they think of it.
If you haven’t yet seen the thing in motion you might want to watch this video below just to see it go.
